What a looney.
by Peppermint ini used to install double-glazing, during this period i was an active witness and worked with a guy who had just come into the truth.
now i don?t know if builders are the same the world over, but the first thing we would do when we got to site was demand a cupa and ask where we could plug in our beatbox.
this would normally be met with a sigh and a resigned look from the householder.

Did God talk to you too?
by Caveat inno im not crazy now... but maybe i was back then.
did you ever prayed for guidance and opened your bible in a passage that seem to show you the way?.
did you get a innocent comment from an old sister at the hall that seemed at the time like advice from the almighty?.

what time of year? the northeast is great in the summer; Long Island; cape cod...you might want to try Makinoc Island up on Lake Michigan.
Winter; try the Florida Keys ( key west is just great fun!) or Marco Island.
Of course, California has its fun spots also. Hollywood is always a "trip"; take a drive from LA up the Pacific coast Highway to San Fransisco ---beautiful city.
I can go on and on....

How did you brutally destroy your WT publications?
by Nosferatu inthe only wt publication i brutally destroyed was a brand new copy of the revalation book.
i was so frustrated with the religion that i ripped the goddam thing into a hundred pieces.
it was a great way to take my anger out on it.. years later when i was dating this one girl, she had a copy of that same stupid book.

Spirit Directed... what exactly does that mean?
by Elsewhere inthe wts is always saying that it is "spirit directed".. what exactly does that mean?
does any of the literature ever actually define "spirit directed"?.
in the past the literature said that angels came down and told russel and ruthorford what "truth" was... then when their "truth" started to fail, the wts started using the phrase "spirit directed".. is this just a way of saying "god controls us, but we are not accountable for any errors made"?.

While I was a FT pioneer, I dated many young "sisters". Since I never met one that I felt I wanted to marry; it usually did not go passed the first date. But as I recall; they were all nice girls from nice families.
I ended up marrying a nice Catholic girl ( but thta is another story for another post)
In my first year in college; I had invited a young sister from a neighboring congregation out one nite for a cup of coffee. We something in common; we were the only young ones around pursuing college; I had just left a 4 year stint of FT pioneering to start college; I was 21. She was 18; had just graduated HS and at a wordly fathers insistence, had started college. Her mother was one of those "zealous" elder wives "wanna be"; but with a wordly husband she was never going to be "there."
Well, Suzanne and I had a glass of wine instead of coffee, and a nice evening talking about ourselves, our education; future etc. As I recall it was a pleasent evening. We arranged a second date. Second time around Suzannes mom grilled me when I went to the door to pick her up
"you gave my daughter wine instead of coffee, what were you hoping to accomplish"
I was so stunned I did not know what to answer so I stammered ( that ws 27 years ago!)
The wordly dad came to the rescue ( a cooler head prevailed) and said it was OK; that we were both in the legal age limits to drink. I suspected immediately that I was the only JW suiter of his daughter that showed some promise for the future ( at that time there were no other JW kids pursuing a college education).
For what ever reason I never dated Suzanne again; but I never forgot the kindness of her "wordly father".

First post
by maidden inbut weirdly enough, i've been mentioned here before, when one of my posts at lj (about whether or not subjection to the organization is relative) caused a bit of a war among ljjws.
i found this forum googling my username, actually.
i was wondering if anyone here has any theories as to why it is that, the more meetings we skip, the less we want to go.

welcome flip,
I hear you loud and clear. I went the same route; a good therapist and some new non JW friends and new positive experiences saved my life.
It sounds like you are on your way to doing well; improving your life and moving on to bigger and better. Good for you; stick it out and do well. Finish college and make something of yourself.
Despite the wrteched childhood we had as Jehovahs Witnesses we can change our lives.
good luck, frank
